This is the first NXT episode after TakeOver: Brooklyn II and – like the first NXT episode after TakeOver: Brooklyn I – the matches tonight were taped at Brooklyn. We’re still at Barclays, not back at Full Sail yet. This is also probably a good 70% recap, just a head’s up. We will be getting matches, but between a whole lot of recapping.
Earlier today, NXT’s official twitter page posted a video of Blake and Murphy arguing, setting up two of our matches tonight. Apparently Blake has a match against Shinsuke (God rest his soul. I hope he’s made his funeral arrangements) and Murphy has a match against “the favorite to win” the Cruiserweight Classic. I remember hearing that Kota Ibushi showed up at a NXT taping recently. Hmm…
Well, we’re running out of things to cover in the run up to the draft, with matches being thrown together and uninspired. However, we’ve still got to go over it, so here’s the Sunday round-up!
NXT starts off with a small video package announcing the Revival vs. American Alpha in a 2-out-of-3 falls match for the NXT tag titles. As I was last week, I’m excited and nervous – excited because that’s gonna be one hell of a match, nervous because I’m gonna have to recap it.
This week’s episode of NXT starts with a recap of last week’s episode of NXT. We get an abbreviated version of Finn’s final speech last week, complete with a shot of his adorable grin during the “Thank you, Finn!” chant. The recap ends on the shot of Finn and Shinsuke clutching hands in the ring.
The narrator with a very deep voice comes in – I’m fairly certain this is a very, very abbreviated version of the one we got during the TakeOver. Straight after that is a short recap of the TakeOver; Andrade won his match against Tye, American Alpha lost to the Revival then got their asses handed to them by a pair of debuting wrestlers, Shinsuke Nakamura Kinshasha’d his way to win against Austin Aries, Asuka beat Nia Jax to retain and Samoa Joe defeated Finn Balor to retain his NXT championship.
