PPV Predictions: No Mercy

Don’t the PPVs sneak up on you these days? It’s very nearly time for our second SmackDown Live exclusive PPV! No Mercy is right around the corner and things have been heating up amongst the SmackDown roster in the build-up. Let’s get to our predictions!

Jack Swagger vs. Baron Corbin (Pre-show)

Unfortunately, I have a confession to make: I have suffered from chronic lack of interest in this feud. Neither Corbin nor Swagger have captured my imagination in the build to No Mercy, probably through no fault of theirs. As a result, I haven’t given a lot of thought to who might win, but I think with Swagger newly coming to SmackDown and trying to regain some momentum, it might be his time. Corbin can afford the loss.

Prediction: Jack Swagger to win.

Curt Hawkins vs. TBD

We’re finally getting to see Curt Hawkins, which hopefully means slightly fewer ‘Curt Hawkins facts’. He’s a debuting star, they’ve been pushing him as ultra-powerful, so I can’t imagine he’s going to lose in his debut. I’m more interested in trying to predict who his opponent will be, and I have my eyes on a certain demon who has been defeating milkmen, dancers and faces of fear lately.

Prediction: Curt Hawkins to defeat Kane.

Nikki Bella vs. Carmella

I’m honestly really thrilled that we have two women’s matches on the card for this PPV, and both of them representing feuds with distinct stories. Carmella resents Nikki Bella for stealing her thunder in her “Brooklyn is the same place as Staten Island, right?” hometown, and Nikki would like Carmella to stop attacking her, please. More than that, Carmella represents the ‘New Era’, while Nikki is well-established. It’s not the deepest storyline, but at least it’s not “women just hate each other”.

Prediction: Nikki Bella to come out on top.

Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt

This storyline has been spooky Bray Wyatt working wonders for me, and if he was facing anyone except Randy Orton I’d be sort of thrilled about it. As it is, I’m still enjoying the vignettes because I like where this is taking Bray Wyatt, but how many times have I been disappointed before by a sweet build to a Wyatt storyline, only to be cut down?

Prediction: My heart says Bray, but I have to go with my head saying Orton.

The Miz (with Maryse) vs. Dolph Ziggler – Intercontinental Championship Title vs. Career Match

Oh, here’s another one where my heart and head are warring. I actually have no idea where this is going. Let me tell you all this now: if Dolph Ziggler loses this match, I will cry. I’ve become so invested in this storyline, off the back of their promos and their in-ring work together, and right now I feel like I could watch them fight forever. This is a plausibly main event-worthy match and story, and I’m so hungry to know how it ends.

Prediction: I have to go with my heart and say, please don’t leave us, Ziggler!

Heath Slater & Rhyno vs. The Usos – SmackDown Tag Team Championships

I have no idea, still, how SmackDown managed to sell me on Heath Slater as a credible champion, but I can’t deny that they did it! I’ve been loving this storyline so much. That being said, I feel like it’s time to bring it to an end. The Usos are deserving, especially after their very nice rebranding, and I can’t imagine Heath “I’m just one man” Slater remaining as part of a tag-team for long.

Prediction: The Usos to win.

Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss – SmackDown Women’s Championship

The second women’s match of the night! Here we have the battle of SmackDown’s number one female draft pick and the tiny (but don’t say that to her face) powerhouse trying to prove herself. I wouldn’t mind seeing either result to this match, but I don’t think Becky Balboa’s time with the title is up yet.

Prediction: Becky Lynch to retain.

Dean Ambrose vs. John Cena vs. AJ Styles – WWE World Championship Triple Threat

The build for this feud has been absolutely scorching, with Cena chasing his 16th championship, Ambrose desperate to reclaim his title, and Styles trying to hold on tight. It’s been wonderful to watch, but I still can’t help but feel that I know where this one is going.

Prediction: AJ Styles to retain.
