Round-Up

Rasslin Round-Up: 10th – 17th April ’16

So, there’s been a few things happening this week that we’ll cover later, but let’s jump right into the action with  Monday’s show, and we’ll cover the news as we get it!

Raw –

  • Kevin Owens has some choice words for Shane McMahon, ‘with all due respect, because I have to say that’
  • Cesaro vs. Kevin Owens for #1 contendership of the Intercontinental Title, Cesaro wins
  • The New Day are running a tag team tournament to see who will be the new #1 contender for the tag team titles!
  • Tag Team Tournament match, The Dudley Boyz vs. The Lucha Dragons, Dudleys take the win – but then Team Sawft showed up with some harsh words
  • The League of Nations had some things to say to Roman Reigns – but he’s not worried about them. The Wyatts showed up to chase the League away, and Shane McMahon liked it so much he decided Roman and Bray were going to tag together against the league for the main event
  • WWE Women’s Championship match, Natalya defeated Charlotte. Chrlotte actually tapped, and should have lost her title, but the ref didn’t see, as Daddy Flair pulled her out of the ring. Natalya won via DQ, but the title stays where it is
  • Tag Team Tournament match, The Usos vs. Curtis Axel & Heath Slater of Social Outcasts, followed by the debut of Anderson and Gallows of the Bullet Club to take the Usos apart
  • AJ Styles vs. Sami Zayn in an incredible match, so intense and well-planned, just a brilliant show of skill from both of them, with the caveat that if Sami won, he’d make the championship match at Payback into a triple threat. Sami lost, but it was worth it for the handshake and hug from AJ, and the praise for both of them from Shane. This is how you book a face vs. face match
  • Dean Ambrose interrupted Chris Jericho’s ‘Highlight Reel’ to replace it with ‘The Ambrose Asylum’, which angered Chris immensely
  • Apollo Crews vs. Adam Rose in a match basically just designed to make Crews look like the monster he is
  • Roman Reigns & Bray Wyatt vs. Sheamus & Alberto Del Rio, and Bray surprised all of us by being actually trustworthy, and helping Roman get the win. When Rusev got into it from the side, the rest of the Wyatts showed up to help out, and there was a brilliant moment where Bray hit Sister Abigail, then without pausing, aimed his fingers like a gun at Sheamus as Roman hit him with a spear. Magical moment. Raw ended with Bray and Roman staring each other down in the ring.

SmackDown –

  • Miz TV to kick us off, with Maryse as his guest. The two get handsy and smoochy, and are the perfect heel power couple, before Zack Ryder comes to rudely interrupt them – so they tell him he has a match with Baron Corbin
  • Zack Ryder vs. Baron Corbin was interesting, if not that spectacular, with Corbin winning easily, then continuing the beat down until Dolph Ziggler showed up to exact revenge for Corbin’s win over him the previous week
  • Emma vs. Paige, which was pretty awesome. Emma’s loving her new vicious gimmick, and heads to the ring to defeat Paige!
  • Tag Team Tournament match, Team Sawft vs. The Ascension saw Enzo and Big Cass triumph over Stardust’s little pets
  • AJ Styles vs. Alberto Del Rio, there wasn’t really any reason for this match, but it was kinda awesome to see, and AJ even made Del Rio look good, so maybe there’s hope for Roman at Payback in a couple of weeks. AJ took the win
  • Golden Truth segment where Goldust tells R-Truth he’s teaming with Fandango instead for the tournament
  • Tag Team Tournament match, The Vaudevillains vs. Goldango. Obviously Gotch and English took it, in a very short match, but it was no less enjoyable a finish for that
  • Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho, this match quickly got out of hand when Kevin Owens came down to ringside, followed by Dean Ambrose who was handing out flyers for ‘The Ambrose Asylum’. These two men joined the commentary team, and ended up getting involved in the match as Jericho was thrown into Owens by Zayn, after Jericho attacked Ambrose at the commentary table. Owens heading into the ring caused the disqualification on jericho, so Sami takes the win. In the end, Dean and Sami joined forces to send Jericho running into the crowd, and Owens retreating up the ramp.

Other News –

  • Bray Wytt suffered a calf injury while on tour in Milan. No details yet as to when he might be back, which is a blow coming so hot on the heels of his Raw success
  • Konnor of The Ascension and Adam Rose are each suspended for 60 days after being found with their second violation of WWE’s Wellness Policy. Not statement has been made about what they were found to be using, nor is it likely to be
